Every year the Chicago Tribune sponsors the the Nelson Algren Award for short stories that best reflect the writings of Algren. The contest is open to US citizens only. There is no fee to enter. The deadline is February 1, 2013 for stories of up to 8000 words. There is one grand prize of $3500, four finalist receive $1000 each, and $500 to goes to each of five runners-up.
