On Endings

While searching for a market I stumbled across this blog post by Kyler Campbell over at South85 Journal about writing endings. http://www.south85journal.com/index.php/blog/101-life-on-mars-with-my-father-in-law Coming up with a great ending isn't always easy.

Note: the original British version of "Life on Mars" was a lot better, I think.

And that is right where I am this minute. If you can't have a bang, you also can't have a whimper.
And yes, the UK version was just terrific. I never watched the last episode though. Afraid they would ruin it.

And I've never watched the show at all, sad to say. But I do hate shows that wind up telling you everything was a dream. It's a true cop-out.

Hard to find that perfect spot between a bang and whimper, Patti. When I finally get what I think is the perfect ending, I usually have to go back through the story to make sure the reader has an glimmering that it could end there. I hate being fooled, so I try not to fool my readers.
